Geography & terrain
Along (Aalo) stands at the junction of the Sipu and Siang rivers in the eastern Himalaya of Arunachal Pradesh — a green bowl town of the Adi people at 300 m, ringed by steep, hornbill-forest ridges. The Brahmaputra's great starting artery, the Siang, turns here from its gorges toward the plains.
History & culture
A small Adi trading settlement that grew into the district headquarters and the heart of the Siang valley's tribal culture — famed for the hospitalities and festivals (Solung, Aran) of the Adi, whose mithun, cane-and-bamboo crafts and sacred stones run through the valley's memory. The town rose in importance with the post-1947 frontier administration; alongside are the old ties of the river trade with Tibet's borders.
